Camp Information:

Our Camps:
Shoal Creek Outfitters is very unique in the fact that unlike most outfitters we don't have just one camp in one area, we have four camps in four areas.  Two of these camps are South Of Jackson and the other two are North Of Jackson.  For this reason we can offer hunters a more diverse and fulfilling hunt.

Camps South of Jackson:

Two of our camps are located in the Gros Ventre Range. The lower camp is nestled in next to beautiful Shoal Creek. It is accessed over a rough and rugged Jeep road. The upper camp is two hours of back riding away in glorious Tin Can Park.  This camp is positioned at the end of a grassy meadow in the shadow of the Gros Ventre Mountains.

The habitat surrounding these camps supports, elk, mule deer, moose, antelope, big horn sheep and black bears. This diverse environment makes these two camps Ideal locations for the hunters who want to bag several different species.

Most of the hunting in this area occurs no more than two hour from camp and quite often wildlife is bagged right next to camp.  This may serve as a benefit for the hunters whom are a little older and aren’t quite as active as they once were.

Another wonderful aspect of these camps is the extraordinary mule deer hunting.  This area is where all of our Trophy Mule Deer hunts will take place.  Throughout the past we have had numerous hunters take some truly trophies bucks.

 Camps North of Jackson:
These camps are located approximately 40 mi. north of Jackson in the Pilgrim Creek drainage.  Pilgrim Creek is sandwiched between Grand Teton National Park and Yellowstone National Park in the Bridger Teton Wilderness.  This wonderful location is home to some of the largest trophy elk in the United States.

The base camp is a short 15-minute horseback ride from the trailhead.  Our upper camp is a 4-hour horseback ride from the base camp.  The majority of the hunting will take place out of the upper camp.  This camp allows us easier access to a larger portion of our country ensuring a greater chance for successful hunts.  However, hunting in this area can be physically demanding and it is strongly recommended that you be in your best physical condition before booking your hunt.  If you are looking to kill a trophy bull elk this is the camp for you.

All of the camps are equipped with 10x12 wall tents for sleeping.  All sleeping tents are furnished with two cots and a wood stove. The wood stove allows you to be cozy in the worst of  weather conditions.  A generator supplies power to the lighting system in our lower camps.  In the upper camps each tent is lit with a kerosene lantern.  After a long day in the mountains I can assure you; your tent is a welcome sight.

A full-time experienced cook is on staff to prepare delectable meals.  Entrees will be prepared and served to you in a 10x20 wall tent (Cook Tent).  The Cook Tent also serves as a social gathering place.  Discussing the day's hunt, planning the next day's hunt or playing cards are just a few of the activities enjoyed here.  An efficient wood stove is used for heating.

Booking Your Hunt:

For those of you who are lucky enough to draw a hunting license, it is now time for you to consider booking your hunt.  To ensure the hunt dates of your choice, it is best to book your hunt at the earliest possible convenience.  However, there are no single hunt dates that have proven more successful. The determining factor usually is the weather. Unless a private hunt is requested, two hunters will be placed with each guide and no more than six hunters will be in camp per hunt.

One third of the hunt price is required for deposit.  The balance is due at the beginning of your hunt. Deposits are non-refundable or transferable.  We accept personal checks for deposit, but we ask first time hunters to pay the balance of fees with cash, travelers check or by certified check. We appreciate your cooperation in this area.

Transportation:

As most major airlines service the Jackson airport it may be best to check with a travel agent to book an adequate flight.  If requested we can pick you up at the airport.   If you drive or fly and we do not pick you up at the airport, it is crucial that you advise us of your arrival. This will allow us to  formulate a plan as to where to meet.  For those of you who do not have a vehicle we will provide the transportation from town to hunting camp.  If you do have a vehicle you can either follow us to camp or we will give you an adequate place to park.

Fitness:

We recommend hunters be in their best physical shape before a Wyoming hunting trip.  Hunting is done from 7,000 up to 11,000 feet.  As there is no way to prepare yourself for the altitude, we strongly recommend physical conditioning beforehand.  Allowing yourself to be in quality physical shape will not only improve your odds of having a successful hunt, but you will have a much more enjoyable experience.

Preference Points:

If you were unsuccessful drawing a hunting license and plan on a future hunting trip to Wyoming, it is crucial that you purchase the offered Preference Points!  For up to date information keep a close eye on the Wyoming Game and Fish web site Or contact me at 307-733-1310.

Antelope:

Areas:

Preference # 1: 86
Preference # 2: 87
Type:     1

Driving across Wyoming you can't help but notice our abundance of Antelope.  While we do not specialize in strictly Antelope hunts, it is the versatility of our camp which will allow you to incorporate it into your trip.  However, if your efforts to draw other tags proves unsuccessful, we will help you plan an Antelope hunt.

Our lower camp south of Jackson is positioned directly in the middle of area 86.  This allows for easy hunting either by horseback or vehicle.  The drive alone into camp has yielded several trophy Antelope.  Area 87 is a short 30-40 minute car ride east of our camp near Pinedale, Wyoming.  The hunts in areas 87 takes place on private property, ensuring you an opportunity at a trophy Antelope.

Bear:

Trophy bear hunting is a unique spring event.  We have several bait sites near the Jackson area.  From these sites, our hunters have taken some of the largest bears in the state of Wyoming.  Obtaining a license is not a problem, one can be purchased over-the-counter at various locations.  To organize your bear hunt, contact us today.

Big Horn Sheep: Areas:

Preference # 1:  7
Type:     1

A Big Horn Sheep license is one of the most difficult licenses to drawn.  Do not be discouraged.  The sheep draw is on a preference point system.  The more times you apply, the greater your odds are of drawing a license.  If you do not submit an application one year, your preference points go back to zero.  Apply every year!

Sheep's incredible intelligence combined with the rugged terrain they live in, provides for an enjoyable and challenging hunt.  Accessing the Sheep's habitat is made easier with the use of a portable camp, packed to a remote location of the Gros Ventre range.  From there, hunting will take place using a spot and stock method.  It is very important that you be in excellent physical condition, due to the harsh landscape. Walking is the primary mode of transportation.  Horses will be used whenever possible.

Application Areas:

Bulls: General Type: Special   Draw ($893.00)

Cows:
Preference #1:84
Type: 6

Elk hunting is done from either of my four camps.  The terrain varies from open meadows, aspen covered hill sides and steep snow slide draws to heavily wooded forests.  The elk seek protection in the darkest of timber during the day and commonly feed out into the open meadows, aspen hill sides and snow slide draws in the early morning and late evenings.  To take advantage of this we leave camp well before day light or dusk.  As with our other hunts, horses are our primary mode of transportation.  Although we rely a great deal on them it is important that you prepare to walk a fair amount.

Moose:

Areas:

South Camps:
Preference # 1:21
Preference # 2:22
Type:   1

North Camps:
Preference # 1:15
Type:   1

Drawing a moose license is a challenging task.  As with sheep licenses, moose licenses are drawn on a preference points system.  It is very important you apply every year to maintain and increase these points.

With a wide array of beaver ponds, Quaker hill sides and willow covered creek beds, the Shoal Creek and Dell Creek drainages are prime moose habitat.  Both of these areas can be easily accessed on horseback from either one of our camps .  We have taken several Boone and Crocket moose from these areas throughout the past twelve years.  During this time our kill ratio has remained at 100%.  The camps north of Jackson are also good moose hunting and would be an excellent place to draw a tag.

Mule Deer:

Area:  Region H

Preference: Special Draw

Shoal Creek and Dell Creek is some of the most spectacular Mule Deer habitat in the world.  As you can tell by looking at a few of the pictures on this page, our hunters have taken some real trophies.  It is not by accident they have had this opportunity.  Combining the diverse terrain with our experience is a recipe for success.

Trophy hunts primarily take place from our upper camp, however the lower camp may be used.  This will be determined by the quality of hunting in either location.  Horses will be used, but due to the generally rugged nature of the terrain, be prepared to walk a great deal.
